DETS Classroom

You were with us a few weeks ago when Traffic Safety Consultants, Inc. (TSC) rolled out our newly approved online Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course.

We have now received approval for the classroom-based version of this program, and are ready to begin training instructors to deliver this exciting new program to Florida teens.

You'll be receiving an email from us shortly to set up your training. When this email shows up in your inbox, please review the information presented and schedule your training time so you can get up and running with DETS as soon as possible.

Also, take a moment to review the curriculum materials and familiarize yourself with the program. (Don't worry, it's pretty similar to our other courses and you're already quite familiar with the material!) As with the other classroom-based programs you're delivering, you can access all of the latest curriculum materials for download via the Classroom Materials page on your affiliate administrative Web portal (login required).

Remember: Effective July 1, 2025, the DETS course replaced the Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course for new licensees under the age of 18.

California Curriculum Updates

California's Clean Air Vehicle Decal program is ending. The final day to order a decal was August 29, 2025, and all decals that allow vehicles access to carpool lanes will no longer be valid after September 30, 2025.

To address this change, all curriculum materials mentioning the fact that decal-bearing low-/no-emissions vehicles are allowed to use High-Occupany Vehicle (HOV)/"carpool" lanes in California have been updated.

Internet Curricula

As your curriculum provider, Traffic Safety Consultants, Inc., (TSC) has already updated the instructional content of all internet-based courses as necessary, and the revised material is being presented to your students now. No further action is required for this modality.

TVS Booklet Curriculum

New editions of the booklet and revised student materials will be issued with the annual legislative updates at the beginning of next year (2026).

Classroom Curricula

Those of you who deliver classroom instruction must ensure that you teach students the updated curriculum. You can download the electronic files from the CA Course Provider administrative website (login required). Items impacted by this update (beyond the minor edit to the lesson plan) are:

  • Traffic Violator School (English and Spanish)
    • Final Exam 1
    • Safe Driving Journal (Instructor Version)
  • Driver Education
    • Final Exam 3
    • Workbook (Instructor Version)
Make sure that you and/or any instructors you employ explain the new laws to students and distribute the latest versions of the classroom materials, as you will be responsible for teaching/testing students on this new material!
